David Ogilvy, who worked in the 50s-70s, had basically the exactly opposite stance (from Helen Woodward). I'm pasting one of his several "wife-quotes", which always have the same point:

"It is flagrantly dishonest for an advertising agent to urge consumers to buy a product which he would not allow his own wife to buy."

After reading his "Confessions of an advertising man", I get a strong feeling that he would effortlessly adapt and make the most of today's rapidly changing world of information and technology.

Here's the book link: <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Confessions-Advertising-Man-David-Ogilvy/dp/0689708009/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1218093084&sr=1-1" rel="nofollow">http://www.amazon.com/Confessions-Advertising-Man-David-Ogilvy/dp/0689708009/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1218093084&sr=1-1</a>

It's a great read. He writes about his very interesting life and how it made and influenced his career in advertising, and he also gives tips on advertising, a lot of which are still very useful today.

Good advice, much of which I came to on my own accord prior to reading this post. What I have decided to study? Theatre and Comedy. Ekk, and that's after obtaining a business major.

Ryan,

This is one of my favourite posts that you have written.

I read your blog often and its on my favourites bar at the top of my Firefox browser.

There's one thing that bothers me about your site - your template doesn't match the content of your writing.

It's not that it's not a good template, it just seems that you have outgrown it.

The photo doesn't reflect your writing. It gives the impression of you as being introverted and not confident. Perhaps in trying to develop the narrative that you are not "a Tucker Max wannabee" you've gone a step to far to push this image.

Also the generic Rudius template, though simple and easy to read, is boring.

Be bold. Differentiate yourself. Stand out. You've earned it.

Cheers,

W
