I did it competitively and with obsession for five years, and finally moved on. I have very little talent, and a lot of physical problems. But once you get that motivation installed deep inside you, you can overcome a lot of shit.

"Here is something I tried really hard at and good came of it"

I've been having a problem with this recently. With me being 24 I'm still going through the whole "What is the meaning of existence?" phase. I've been motivating myself by asking myself how or what I contributed to the world. Answer? Absolutely nothing.

I have no material stuff that I own aside from a POS truck. I haven't gone to college because I was lazy and all the school work came easy to me. I've worked deadend jobs for no reason other than I'm lazy.

This will change soon. Why? For no other reason that I can say to myself I've changed the world in some way.

keep going ryan. If you continue to update as often as you are, and actually keep it up (just like your running) by next month when you get too busy here or there, by then I'll think by then you are one of the best if not the best Rudius Site here. Stable activity is key. That post was nothing less of awesome.

If I admitted what songs I listened to here, I would lose what little respect I have earned. Some of it is laughable--80's butt rock etc, but some of it is too shameful to mention.

But that's the thing, if you listen to the same song long enough, it actually becomes better than silence.

I find it odd that you are able to formulate ideas and mentally write with the ipod running. Usually you would want to hear the natural cadence of the road to get you into a clear mental state. But in LA, it drowns out the ring tones and gun shots. Good call.

I don't run nearly as far as you do but I usually run short bursts to incorporate some HIIT training. Remember, running burns 600 calories/hour. Running from the cops burns 1700 calories an hour. Train accordingly.

What songs do you keep on repeat?

Yeah, just keep doing it.

I do 4-5 almost everyday and the only time I break is either to do sprints or because I'm running on a day I was planning to do less.

Seriously, it's relatively easy to run today and tomorrow and maybe even for the rest of the week. What's hard is next month, when you get really busy and have to take a few days off, is to get back on schedule and keep doing it. Most people quit then and never come back.

How far do you run? Today I had my last cigarette and then went for a 4 mile run (two miles to the destination then 2 back to my house). It destroyed my physically but I felt great. Any tips for a newbie?

The worst choices i have ever made in my life all occurred in the 3 year window I was not running.

More then any other activity, it allows you to sort out your thoughts, see new paths to be taken, and plan how to achieve the most with what you have.

Of course, I am still unable to get myself to wake up early and do runs at the start of my day. I think if i could get myself to do that, my quality of life would improve greatly.
