That way a small independent band "liked" enough by a diverse minority could have a chance of generating more listeners the same way a story hits Digg's front page persuant to Digg's criteria. Instead of having to look for music for myself and pick what's popular, it matches music based on what I listen to in the program and connects with me with other users with similar tastes.
