I wonder if there's a way to successfully fuse a Digg-like algorithm with a music download portal like iTunes. That way a small independent band "liked" enough by a diverse minority could have a chance of generating more listeners the same way a story hits Digg's front page persuant to Digg's criteria.

On the contrary, to get on the list (for a book like his) despite the ridiculous restrictions on the list is an accomplishment. But yes, if it was purely numerical the only books on the list would be the Bible, Dr. Phil and Harry Potter.

Probably why I prefer Last.FM and Pandora to ITunes. Instead of having to look for music for myself and pick what's popular, it matches music based on what I listen to in the program and connects with me with other users with similar tastes. It's always nice to "outsource" my music search.

So Tucker's boasts about being on the NYT Best Seller List aren't worth as much (if the list really is a fraud like Seth claims)?
